Alicia Kearns MP attended the Merchant Navy Day celebration at Oakham Castle on Friday 3rd September, where she saw the Red Ensign fly above the Castle.
Commenting, Alicia said, ‘The merchant navy is the 10th largest in the world - and contributed more than any other body to the wealth of Britain.
‘Over the centuries, their officers and ratings have served with distinction - including their finest hour, in convoy service in the Second World War.
‘The Merchant Navy may not be as known as it’s military counterpart, but it’s continuing legacy is as important to the UK as the Senior Service.’
