Together the Barrowden Village Hall Development Group, Parish Council and Alicia Kearns visited the Barrowden Community Hub site to see the latest progress made on building works and to bury a time capsule to commemorate the project.
The new community hub in Barrowden has replaced the 96-year-old village hall which had a number of structural and safety issues.
Alicia Kearns MP and the Barrowden Village Hall Development Group secured £300,000 from the Government’s Community Ownership Fund in June 2023. The funding has now been utilised and the foundations are established, timber frame is up, and the first of the limestone walls are in place.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:
“It’s wonderful to see the new community hub at Barrowden taking shape.
“This exciting project wouldn’t be possible without the incredible work of the Barrowden Village Hall Development Group, the £300,000 Community Ownership Funding we secured from the Government last year, and National Lottery Community Funding.
“Securing the funding was by no means an easy feat after the pandemic forced initial plans back to the drawing board, so it’s really exciting to now see the end in sight! This village hall is a testament to the community spirit and commitment of residents of Barrowden and will provide a meeting place for the village to come together for the next 100 years."
