Alicia Kearns MP has launched a new survey on mobile phone signal and broadband coverage to hear from residents which areas in our communities require improvements.
The 7-question survey can be completed on here.
In 2020, Alicia secured a place for 12,000 homes in Oakham and surrounding areas in the first phase of the Government’s £5 billion investment in Gigabit broadband for hard-to-reach rural areas. Work began in October 2021, and Uppingham was the first market town in the UK to have full fibre options.
The previous Conservative Government also stepped in to provide an improved gigabit service in the South East of Rutland where commercial providers were not.
When Alicia was first elected in 2019, only 10% of homes in Rutland and Melton had access to gigabit broadband, that now stands at 63% (March 2024: Think Broadband)
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:
“So much of our lives rely on fast broadband and good mobile phone signal, so I know how frustrating it can be when it’s unreliable.
“I have successfully lobbied for many of our rural communities to be in the tranches of gigabit upgrades, however I know there are areas where improvements are still needed.
“I want to hear from you about where these ‘notspots’ are, so please do feedback your experiences in my survey and I will fight for our communities to get the mobile phone coverage and broadband speeds we deserve.”
