Alicia Kearns MP has launched a petition calling on the Government to reconsider the decision to cut Winter Fuel Payments.
Labour has voted to cut Winter Fuel Payments for 10 million pensioners, and an expected 20,800 pensioners in Rutland, Stamford, and the Harborough and South Kesteven villages.
Alicia’s petition calls on the Government to delay changes by at least a year to ensure pensioners have time to plan for next Winter, and to protect Winter Fuel Support for all pensioners living with life-limiting or chronic conditions. The petition can be signed on here.
Alicia is also encouraging all pensioners to check their eligibility for Pension Credit, as many people are not aware that pensioners in receipt of Pension Credit will also receive Winter Fuel Support.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:
“Labour’s cuts to Winter Fuel Payments with so little notice leaves over 20,000 pensioners across our communities limited time to prepare for a cold Winter without this important lifeline of support.
“I am calling on the Government to reconsider this callous decision, and at least give pensioners more time to prepare by delaying changes and protecting support for those living with life-limiting or chronic conditions, who often have higher energy bill costs than others.
“Please do sign my petition and encourage your friends, family and neighbours to add their names. The more signatories we have, the stronger our calls to the Government.”
