Alicia Kearns MP met with the DEFRA Minister, Trudy Harrison, to raise concerns about the need for better protection of Best and Most Versatile (BMV) land from mass solar development.
If Mallard Pass Solar Plant were to go ahead, this would lead to the loss of over 2,000 acres of productive farmland in our communities. Alicia will be bringing forward new clauses to the upcoming Energy Bill to tackle this issue.
Alicia also highlighted the need to drive transparency in fertiliser market prices, and raised the case for the introduction of Gas-Fertiliser Index. This would not only help our farmers better prepare for market volatility, but it would also help support them with the recent cost increases.
