Alicia Kearns MP met members of Tilton’s Electric Car Club and Green Fox Community Energy Co-operative to hear more about this new initiative and their plans for a national roll out.
Tilton’s Electric Car Club is a national pilot and launched earlier this month, providing two electric Nissan Leaf cars which have been purchased by Green Fox Community Energy using funding from Motability.
The cars have been adapted so that residents with mobility issues can use them, and there are also volunteer drivers available to assist those who are unable to drive.
The groundworks and parking spaces for the four electric charge points located at Tilton Village Hall has been completed by village contractor, John Farnsworth and his team.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton, said:
“It was a pleasure to meet the team behind Tilton’s Electric Car Club – a national first!
“Ending rural disadvantage, and ensuring accessibility to transport no matter where you live in our communities is something I feel strongly about, and this brilliant initiative will provide two electric cars for local use.
“Green Fox Community Energy are hoping to roll this scheme out on a national level, so I’m delighted Tilton is the pilot for this green initiative.”
