Over the past few months Alicia Kearns MP has been working with Onward to produce a new report in local Government funding formulas.
Current Council funding formulas are currently blind to social mobility, with the Treasury Funding Assessment targeting only areas of high deprivation. This means that rural areas such as Rutland and Melton, with pockets of deprivation, receive significantly lower levels of Government funding.
Alicia raised her concerns in a Westminster Hall Debate on Rural Council funding.
The report puts forward proposals to incorporate social mobility alongside deprivation in funding formulas to help bring fairness back to Government funding.
