Amid reports of rising energy prices, and following the Winter Fuel Payment changes which will affect an estimated 20,800 pensioners in Rutland and Stamford, Alicia Kearns MP is launching a campaign to encourage residents to check their eligibility for Pension Credit.
Pensioners will require the following information to apply for Pension Credit:
- National Insurance number.
- Information about any income, savings and investments you have.
- Information about your income, savings and investments on the date you want back date your application to (usually 3 months ago or the date you reached State Pension age).
- Bank account details.
Pensioners can check their eligibility via the Pension Credit calculator.
Applications for Pension Credit can be made online or by calling the Pension Credit claim line on 0800 99 1234 (Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm).
Alicia will be distributing posters and leaflets across community locations such as libraries, supermarkets, banks, cafes and more hoping to encourage pensioners to check whether they are eligible for additional support. Alicia particularly asks friends and loved ones to support pensioners in their lives to help them apply online or by phone.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:
“Winter Fuel Payment changes will affect around 20,800 pensioners in Rutland and Stamford, so it is more important than ever that any pensioner eligible for Pension Credit please sign up to receive support through this cold Winter.
“Many pensioners are not aware that pensioners in receipt of Pension Credit will also receive Winter Fuel Support. Please check your eligibility and help your friends and family members check whether they are able to access this important lifeline during the colder months.
“I have called on the Government to delay changes by at least a year to ensure Pensioners have time to plan for next Winter, and to protect Winter Fuel Support for all pensioners living with life-limiting or chronic conditions, who often have higher energy bill costs than others.”
