The Uppingham Fatstock is a true Rutland tradition – and this year was the 114th event. Alicia Kearns MP was delighted to attend the show again this year after 2020’s sad cancellation due to the pandemic. It was only the third time the show has been cancelled, the first being the Second World War. The Fatstock is one of the most prestigious events in Uppingham’s calendar, and only serves to highlight how important agriculture is to daily life in Rutland.
Alicia Kearns believes that shows like the Uppingham Fatstock are vital for farming across the constituency of Rutland and Melton, saying, “I love shows like the Uppingham Fatstock. These aren’t just heritage events: they’re a living, breathing celebration of our farmers in Rutland.
“I want to do everything I can to make the lives of farmers easier – that means promoting eating local produce, which isn’t just good for the tastebuds and stomach, but for the environment as well; it’s good for our farming sector. British meat is reared to the highest possible standard, and if everyone bought local, it would really be a boon for our farmers here in Rutland.”
