Rutland and Melton MP Alicia Kearns has welcomed the extension of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme by four months, until the end of October.
The Scheme is currently paying 7.5 million workers 80% of their wages up to a limit of £2,500 a month and will continue in the same fashion until the end of July.
As part of the Government’s plan to get the UK on the road to recovery, from August to October the scheme will continue for all sectors and regions of the UK, but will allow greater flexibility to support the transition back to work; for example through part-time or alternate days working.
Between August and October, employers currently using the scheme will be able to bring furloughed employees back part-time, with employers sharing the cost of paying people’s salaries with the Government.
Rutland and Melton MP, Alicia Kearns, said:
“Extending the Job Protection Scheme makes clear that the Government is standing by British workers and their families and is committed to not only saving lives, but also livelihoods.
"As our country heals, it is right that families and businesses across the country have the peace of mind they need.”
Further details on the Scheme extension will be released by the end of May. Alicia Kearns MP continues to focus her efforts on supporting residents through the pandemic.
