Alicia Kearns MP, alongside Cllr Malise Graham (Portfolio holder for People and Communities) and Rupert Matthews, Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicestershire and Rutland, has visited the new lights installed in Melton – part of the £550,000 secured from the Safer Streets Fund to improve lighting and CCTV coverage in our towns.
This fund is part of the Government’s Safer Streets Fund – which is explicitly designed to improve safety for women and girls in our town centres. To date, the Government has committed £70 million to improving safety and create more deterrents across England and Wales.
In addition to the funding for lighting and CCTV, households in Melton are eligible for a wide variety of home security measures – including door locks, window locks and alarm systems.
Anyone who has not received a letter from the Council about these measures, and would like to take advantage for these free measures, can contact the Council at 01664 502502.
Alicia Kearns, MP for Rutland and Melton said:
"We all deserve our town to be as safe as possible, and that's why I’ve been working with the Government, and our Police and Crime Commissioner, to make sure we get the increased lighting and CCTV we needed. I will continue to do everything I can to protect our communities and make us all even safer.
“I hope that residents take advantage of the funding for home security as well – this money needs to be spent, and can make your home more secure.”
