In 2021 The Boundary Commission for England began a review of all the Parliamentary constituencies in England on the basis of rules set by the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986.
A number of factors had to be taken into account when formulating the recommendations, including geographical considerations, boundaries of existing constituencies and local ties.
Following 3 public consultations, with over 60,000 representations to take into consideration, today the Commission submitted their final recommendations to Parliament.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton said:
"Our communities in Rutland and Melton will be divided into three separate constituencies at the next election: Rutland and Stamford, Melton and Syston, and Harborough, Oadby and Wigston. As you will know, I made strong representations against dividing our wonderful Rutland and Melton communities.
"All political parties began selecting candidates on the new boundaries in January as today's news was expected only to confirm previous decisions.
"In March I was honoured to be chosen by the Conservative Selection Committee of Rutland and Stamford to be our Conservative candidate at the next election. Ed Argar, MP for Charnwood has been selected as the Conservative candidate for the new Melton and Syston seat.
"Melton and the Vale will forever remain in my heart, and rest assured I will continue to do all I can to serve our communities across Rutland and Melton until the next election and keep delivering on my promises.
"There is much more work to be done, and I am not finished on delivering for my promises to everyone in Rutland and Melton."
