Fantastic news - the first vaccination in Leicestershire has taken place.
David Brindley (87) was the first local patient at Leicester General Hospital to receive the vaccine this morning.
Invitations for vaccination are going out, and will take place first at the General, then in due course in Melton and Oakham once the vaccine programme is ready to deliver vaccines more locally.
I understand the anxiety to receive the vaccine quickly, but please wait to be contacted by letter or text message.
People aged 80 and over as well as care home workers will be first to receive the vaccine along with NHS workers who are at higher risk.
Invitations to attend have already started going out - please wait to hear, no action is needed. We have thousands of people to be vaccinated locally, it will take time for everyone to be invited to vaccination.
