Rutland and Melton MP Alicia Kearns has welcomed that communities across Leicestershire and Rutland have benefitted from £437 million in Government funding since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Across the country, local authorities have been bolstered by £27 billion emergency funding to support rough sleepers, businesses rates relief, grants for small businesses and local transport systems. Additionally, local authorities have received £3.8 billion to ensure local social care is adequately resourced to deal with increased pressures.
This has meant local councils have had the resources they need to respond to any additional pressures created by coronavirus and been able to continue providing essential services, such as adult social care and children’s services.
Rutland and Melton MP, Alicia Kearns, said:
“I am proud of the Government’s scale and scope of support for our Local Authorities. It is very welcome here in Rutland and Melton where our councils have worked so hard to support all those in need.
“As we slowly return to normality, it is ever more important that our Local Authorities are bolstered so they can continue their fantastic work at the heart of our communities – thank you to everyone working at our local Councils.”
Alicia Kearns MP continues to focus her efforts on supporting constituents throughout the pandemic and remains committed to securing a fair funding deal for rural constituencies.
