Members at the Leicestershire County Council cabinet have voted to approve the Council’s funding contribution for the north and east sections of the Melton Mowbray Distributor Road (NEMMDR)
Planning permission for the relief road was confirmed over three years ago, however inflationary pressures and rising costs in recent months had put the NEMMDR at risk.
The relief road will run to the North and East of Melton, beginning at the A606 Nottingham Road to the North before re-joining the A606 Burton Road to the South of the town.
Alicia Kearns MP, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton said:
“I have long campaigned for this vital infrastructure to unlock Melton’s potential, reduce pollution and improve our connectivity with the East Midlands in general, and I am so pleased that working with Councillor Nick Rushton and Councillor Joe Orson, LCC have confirmed their commitment to the funding for the project. I am aware that significant financial and inflationary pressures have not made this a smooth-sailing journey, but I would like to thank all those at Leicestershire County Council who are working so hard to implement this bypass.”
