As part of ‘Network North’, the Prime Minister has announced the Government will reinvest £9.6 billion into the Midlands to improve transport networks, drive jobs, growth and a more modern economy.
For Leicestershire and Rutland specifically, this will include:
-
A share of a new £2.2 billion Midlands Local Integrated Transport Settlement, an entirely new fund for councils outside the combine authority areas – smaller cities, counties, towns and countryside – to invest in local transport through a 7-year settlement.
-
Increased funding as part of the Bus Service Improvement Plan to improve the frequency of bus services in the Midlands.
-
A share of the £2.2 billion Midlands Road Resurfacing fund to alleviate potholes and deliver smoother journeys for drivers.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton, said:
“This unprecedented level of investment will provide a huge boost to level up our road, bus and train networks across the Midlands.
“Our communities deserve a robust and reliable transport infrastructure, so I am delighted our Councils will receive this significant uplift to deliver just that.
“This funding will help ease congestion on our roads, reduce journey times, and improve the capacity, frequency and quality of our services, ensuring everyone remains connected no matter where they live.”
