Rutland and Melton MP Alicia Kearns has recognised three new local heroes for their outstanding response to the COVID-19 pandemic: Rutland’s Mark Daniels and Steph Parnwell alongside Melton’s Catherine Henderson.
Every week, Alicia celebrates at least one winner of the ‘Unsung Hero’ award, raising awareness of people doing extraordinary things locally, and bolstering community spirit amidst the pandemic. All those recognised will receive a certificate of recognition, a badge and be invited to an event once the pandemic is over as a small way to say thank you.
Mark Daniels and Steph Parnwell run Rutland Cakeaway, but during the COVID-19 crisis, they have been helping people who are shielding or unwell by going shopping for them and assisting with any tasks they need doing. One individual who nominated Mark and Steph said that they have “brought joy to the doorstep of our [Rutland’s] community”.
Catherine Henderson runs the Singing Café, which gives residents the opportunity to meet up with familiar faces twice a week for an online sing along, providing a sense of community and some fun during the lockdown. It has proven extremely popular, especially since residents can submit requests for songs!
Rutland and Melton MP, Alicia Kearns, said:
“I am ever so grateful to Mark, Steph and Catherine for supporting our communities in their own unique but hugely impactful ways.
“They are deservedly our Heroes for bringing light and joy to this difficult time”
Alicia Kearns MP is encouraging residents who know a person or organisation that deserve recognition for their outstanding response to the pandemic to nominate them on her website at aliciakearns.com/heroes.
