Rutland and Melton MP, Alicia Kearns, has welcomed the Government’s swift response to storms Ciara and Dennis, particularly their support for houses and businesses impacted by the resulting flooding.
Over the last fortnight, storms Ciara and Dennis have seen major and devastating damage to towns and communities across the country. In response, the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government (Robert Jenrick MP) triggered the Flood Recovery Framework, freeing up thousands of pounds for those whose homes and businesses have been flooded.
Under this scheme, flood-hit homes and businesses in areas badly affected are eligible to apply for up to £5,000 to build their resilience to future flooding.
Households impacted by the recent flooding can also apply for up to £500 in financial hardship payments alongside a 100 per cent reduction in council tax. Flooded businesses can also apply for up to £2500 from the Business Recovery Grant and apply for a 100 per cent business rates relief.
According to the Government’s Flood Information Service, seven areas in Leicestershire remain at high risk of flooding. To prepare for this nationally, Robert Jenrick MP announced that the Government would convene an urgent meeting of the Cross-Whitehall Flood Recovery Taskforce this week.

“I am hopeful that the Government’s response will allow those impacted by the floods locally to look to the future with confidence and optimism, safe in the knowledge that they are not alone throughout this troubling time.”
