The Rail Delivery Group has announced proposals for the mass closure of railway station ticket offices across the country.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton said:
"I know that many of you are deeply concerned about the proposals to close ticket offices at our local railway stations.
"This is currently a proposal from train operators, and The Passenger Watchdog Transport Focus is running a consultation until 1st September where you can raise your objections to the closures. I’ve responded to their consultation, and it took less than 5 minutes, so I’d encourage you all to share your views here.
"I share many of your concerns that proposals are being made based on when tickets are being sold, and not around the needs of disabled and elderly passengers, or those who may need to use cash."
Alicia has also written to the Managing Director of East Midlands Railway to highlight these concerns, and will continue to work closely with her colleague, Chris Loder MP, who used to be a ticket operator himself.
