Alicia Kearns MP recently wrote to local Councils with the results of her fly-tipping survey.
As a result of the survey results, Melton Borough Council (MBC) has now introduced additional monitoring at several sites reported by you in my survey.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton, said:
"I hope this will help put an end to incidents of fly-tipping in these parts of our communities, so thank you for sharing your concerns with me, which helped us achieve this increased monitoring. It is also encouraging to hear that over the past 12 months, MBC have investigated over 42 incidents of fly-tipping, and there are several cases currently under investigation."
"Having lobbied Ministers regularly since my election to ask for tougher penalties on fly-tipping, and having promised you I’d secure tougher punishments, I’m relieved to see fines for fly-tipping rise from £400 to £1,000."
Harborough District Council (HDC) meanwhile has responded that the sites reported in Alicia's survey are currently being monitored regularly, and mobile CCTV has been installed in these hotspots until the problem improves and hopefully ends.
HDC took action against a fly-tipper on Ingarsby Lane last year, who was issued with a £400 fine for his offences.
