Harborough District Councillors have today (Monday 18th December) voted in favour take on Leicester's unmet housing need and build in the Harborough district.
Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton, said:
"I am beyond disappointed that tonight at Harborough District Council all Lib Dem, Green and Labour councillors voted in favour of building 2,500 of Leicester’s unmet housing need in our Harborough communities.
"We would have built our own housing requirements, over the last few years as a conservative council we’d delivered more housing than needed, but this is against the wishes of the vast majority of our communities.
"They were determined to ram this through, at a cost of millions to our communities, even though we told them the new National Planning Policy Framework was being published tomorrow.
"They did not need to. We as MPs secured all the necessary assurances from Govt that they didn’t need to. They had promised not to do this when they stood for election."
