Rutland and Melton MP, Alicia Kearns, urged people not to come to Rutland for so-called “self-isolation holidays” following government guidance of a lockdown due to the outbreak of coronavirus. Alicia Kearns MP raised the issue directly with the Health Secretary Matt Hancock in the House of Commons during the Coronavirus Bill debate.
Despite stringent Government guidance, strongly urging families and individuals to protect themselves and others, Ms Kearns reported her shock at seeing traffic jams for caravan parks and hotels advertising self-isolation holidays while at home in the constituency over the weekend.
Rutland and Melton MP, Alicia Kearns, said:
“It is not acceptable for people to be travelling to Rutland when they are meant to be self-isolating or social distancing.
“We are the most beautiful county in the country, but people flooding our area is frankly dangerous as it could bring the virus to our area even quicker and our large number of elderly residents deserve our protection. This is a pandemic, not an early holiday opportunity. The government guidance is clear - stay in your homes.”
