Alicia Kearns MP has launched a petition opposing Rutland County Council’s proposals to change Rutland’s fortnightly black bin collection to a three-weekly collection.
Documents from Rutland County Council show they are planning to cut black bin collections, and reduce them from every two weeks, to every three weeks.
Rutland Conservatives are calling for residents help to save Rutland’s fortnightly bin collections.
Alicia Kearns MP wrote to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Steve Reed MP, earlier this month asking the Minister to set out what additional financial assistance will be available to Local Authorities to implement the new rules on food waste disposal. The Government has already provided £534,246 to the Council to introduce the new weekly food waste collection

Alicia Kearns MP, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:
“The Council’s proposals to cut our black bin collections to only every three-weeks is wrong.
“The Council should be open with Rutlanders and tells us the cuts they’re proposing.
“We already pay the highest rate of council tax nationally, and the Government has provided over £500k to support the roll out of a new food bin.
“I have written to the Leader of the Council to express my concerns and to the Government to ask for further financial assistance. But this is the wrong decision.
“Please do encourage your friends, family and neighbours to sign my petition calling on the Council to reconsider cutting our black bin collections.”
Councillor Lucy Stephenson said:
‘Bin collections are an essential part of our everyday lives. On the table is a proposal to move to three weekly black bin collections. It is vital your views are heard before a decision is taken and a new contract signed.’
