Rutland and Melton MP Alicia Kearns has recognised two local ‘Unsung Heroes’ for their outstanding response to the COVID-19 pandemic; the East Family who run the Old White Hart in Lyddington and Melton’s 17 year-old Oliver Roberts.
Every week, Alicia celebrates at least one winner of the ‘Unsung Hero’ award, raising awareness of people doing extraordinary things locally, and bolstering community spirit amidst the pandemic. All those recognised will receive a certificate of recognition, a badge and be invited to an event once the pandemic is over as a small way to say thank you.
Stuart and Holly East alongside their teenage children George and Kitty have been making around 300 meals every day for NHS staff at Kettering Hospital as part of the Food4Heroes initiative. Those wanting to donate to support their work can do so here: https://www.athene-communications.co.uk/food-4-heroes-kettering/
17 year old Oliver Roberts has been advised to shield for at least the next 12 weeks, but has chosen to spend his time making scrubs for local doctors and nurses from his old bed sheets while staying on top of his A-Level studies.
Rutland and Melton MP, Alicia Kearns, said:
“The East family and Oliver are going above and beyond to help our community heal from the pandemic and I am extremely grateful for their hard work.
“ It is inspiring to see members of our community responding to the outbreak with such resilience and dedication to their neighbours and country”.
Other organisations who have already been recognised as heroes are the Leicestershire and Rutland 4 x 4 drivers who have been delivering essentials and transporting vulnerable community members, the Larder in Oakham, Jim Bluck from Hallaton, Melton Mowbray’s Joe Orson, Rutland Sewing, Little Angels Childcare, Kumar Rakshit, the Moore Brothers and the Howling family. Rutland’s Elke de Vries and Melton’s Katie Howett and Steve Ironside were recognised last week.
Alicia Kearns MP is encouraging residents who know a person or organisation that deserve recognition for their outstanding response to the pandemic to nominate them on her website at aliciakearns.com/heroes.
