Rutland and Melton MP Alicia Kearns has announced this week’s Unsung Heroes; the students at St Francis Catholic Primary School and Maggie Malgorzata.
Every week, Alicia celebrates at least one winner of the ‘Unsung Hero’ award, raising awareness of people doing extraordinary things locally, and bolstering community spirit amidst the pandemic. All those recognised will receive a certificate of recognition, a badge and be invited to an event once the pandemic is over as a small way to say thank you.
The children of St Francis Catholic Primary School have been making postcards for vulnerable people, delivering flowers and playing virtual boardgames with people who are shielding. They have also been picking up litter and supporting charities with fundraising endeavours.
Rutland’s Maggie Malgorzata has received several nominations from the community for her acts of outstanding kindness. From lending a hand to those in need to spreading joy to colleagues and customers at work, Maggie has been described as “an individual with a beautiful soul and kind heart”.
Rutland and Melton MP, Alicia Kearns, said:
“ It is deeply impressive that the children of St Francis Catholic Primary have responded to the pandemic with such a clear sense of communal spirit. I am extremely grateful to them for the kind and ingenious ways in which they are lifting our community’s spirit, and to their teachers for supporting them in their endeavours.”
“Maggie has warmed the hearts of so many in our community. Through every day acts of kindness, Maggie has made a big difference to people who are finding this period particularly challenging, helping to boost their spirits. She is deservedly a hero!”
Alicia Kearns MP is encouraging residents who know a person or organisation that deserve recognition for their outstanding response to the pandemic to nominate them on her website at aliciakearns.com/heroes.
