Rutland and Melton MP Alicia Kearns has announced this week’s Unsung Heroes; the teams at Rutland Radio and 103 the Eye Community Radio.
Every week, Alicia celebrates at least one winner of the ‘Unsung Hero’ award, raising awareness of people doing extraordinary things locally, and bolstering community spirit amidst the pandemic. All those recognised will receive a certificate of recognition, a badge and be invited to an event once the pandemic is over as a small way to say thank you.
Rutland Radio has been a vital lifeline to shielding or isolating residents, keeping them informed and making sure they feel connected at this lonely time.
Unlike many other community radio stations, 103 the Eye Community Radio maintained their normal live broadcasting hours throughout the pandemic. This is partly in thanks to presenter Paul Stuart who ensured his colleagues had the equipment they needed to broadcast from home.
