Today the Government launched a new Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) to ensure UK residents can continue to access emergency care in the EU.
Under the EU-Trade deal, our right to emergency and medically necessary healthcare when travelling to the EU continues. This includes medically necessary treatments for pre-existing or chronic conditions.
Current European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC) are valid as long as they are in date and people can continue to use these when travelling to the EU and we only need to apply for the new GHIC card when our EHIC card expires.
The new GHIC card is free to obtain here: https://www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/healthcare-abroad/apply-for-a-free-uk-global-health-insurance-card-ghic/
