This Government is committed to tackling violent crime. I welcome an additional £880,000 for Leicestershire and Rutland to tackle violent crime and boost our Violence Reduction Units. These are special units designed to help tackle serious violence and prevent young people in Leicestershire and Rutland joining organised crime groups.
Violence Reduction Units bring together organisations across local communities to tackle violent crime and address its underlying causes, as well as also funding vital local projects doing positive preventative work with children and young people. We are one of 18 areas across England and Wales, getting a share of the £35.5 million total pot provided by Government.
I continue to raise issues related to rural and organised crime with the Government, and with our local police services.
