I’m very grateful to Latham House for their significant work vaccinating over 33,000 people in Melton over the last few months – they have delivered a fantastic local vaccination service.
“Latham House’s decision not to vaccinate beyond cohorts 1-9 has worried many residents. I’ve had extensive discussions with our Clinical Commissioning Group and the Vaccines’ Minister over the last week, and I am relieved that they have reassured me that a new provider will take over during May with a 5-7 day service so that we can crack on with vaccinating those outside of cohorts 1-9, and that the vaccination centre at Melton Sports Village will remain open. Residents can also be assured that Latham House will deliver first and second doses to all those in cohorts 1-9 between now and June 25th.
“I visited Melton Sports Village last week to thank our clinicians and volunteers, especially the Melton Lions. I’ve also been reassured that all those volunteering at the vaccination centre currently will also be invited to continue.
“We need to think about how the COVID-19 booster vaccination programme will be run in the Autumn, and I would like to see a stronger role for pharmacies.
“The people of Melton deserve exceptional care they can access swiftly. Latham House’s decision that the vaccination programme and primary care cannot be delivered by one GP surgery confirms what we already know: Melton urgently needs a second GP practice. I’m making very good progress on my promise, watch this space.”
